Frontiers of Nanomechanical Systems (FNS)

The conference venue is Art Centre Delft. This is a former farm from the nineteenth century, partly renovated, partly expanded with bright, spacious rooms. Glass parts from floor to ceiling give the feeling of staying in a glass house and a huge wooden terrace offers a fantastic view of the most beautiful piece of nature in Midden-Delfland in all seasons. What started as a gallery for the arts has evolved over the years into an event location. Several spaces have been added, all designed together with the owners, Paula and Jeroen,  and made from sustainable materials.

The Gallery hosts about six different exhibitions per year, all made possible by the Land Art Delft Foundation. In the garden, sometimes hidden among the greenery, you can also see all kinds of works of art. During a meeting, or during lunch/drinks, a walk through the sculpture park of the Land Art Delft Foundation is really worthwhile.

If you arrive at Delft train station, you can get to the Art Centre by bus. At the bus platform, take bus number 40. It leaves every hour at :07 and :37. You exit at bus stop 'Scheepswerf Bocxe' in Delft. From the bus stop it is a 5 minute walk to Art Centre Delft.

From 1595 to 1972, it was the place for the Delft cattle markets. Nowadays the square is a cozy terrace surrounded by large trees.

In the Old Church (Oude Kerk) with its characteristic leaning tower, you will find the final resting place of many Dutch historical figures from the sixteenth and seventeenth century.

The Agneta Park is the oldest factory colony in the Netherlands with a landscape layout. The oldest part is from 1882-1885. E. Gugel designed the cottage-style houses. Landscape architect L.P. Zocher built the park.

The city hall, built in renaissance style (1618-1620) is constructed around the medieval tower Het Steen which dates back to the 13th century. The tower was used as a prison whose most famous prisoner was Balthasar Gerards, the murderer of William the Silent.

Vermeer’s View of Delft is probably the most famous cityscape painted by a Dutch master in the 17th century. The painting shows the view from the top floor of a house on the Hooikade, which looks out over the south side of the harbour.
